It's been a while since we
heard anything solid about the DirecTV Nomad unit, but a teaser page recently went live on the satellite company's website showing the device. The tiny pic isn't incredibly revealing, but other than "coming soon" the page also displays a laptop, phone and tablet -- likely targets for viewers to watch their TV broadcasts away from the satellite box. That MDR1R0-01 remains scarce, but hit the source link and keep your eye peeled on that URL for more information about DirecTV's competitor to the Slingbox / iPad apps being offered by other TV providers.
[Thanks, Tyler]

So the Nomad is 150 dollars, and you can encode 20 hours of recorded shows and then transfer them to your mobile device for 30 days, and no live streaming at all. It is a novel idea, I still don’t understand why providers take the hard way around on things like TV everywhere, I mean this is content everywhere, for 30 days, so nomadic people must return home to refresh their playlist. Working at DISH I purchased a sling adapter last year for $99 a good 50 less then the Nomad, and it allows me to stream all my recorded shows, and all my live subscribed channels to my mobile device instantaneously. Perfect for the type of person that does not plan, because it never has to wait, it doesn’t have to transcode the information, and it doesn’t expire.
